1000 MEMBERS (Who gets the credit?)

1000
(Who gets the credit?)
We embarked on 17th May 2010 on this journey. We anticipated that no journey of this magnitude will be without obstacles and sometimes boisterous headwinds!
We encountered a balanced basket of emotions and characteristics in the embroidery field;
Appreciation, enthusiasm, dedication and companionship from our embroiderers.
We are experiencing wonderful support and encouragement from a number of digitizers who are prepared to serve the cause for the right reasons.
I received a very inspiring e-mail from a digitizer today and would like to quote from it:
“There are times when even enemies come together against a common enemy..... in this case cancer.”
Teamwork, divides the task and multiplies the success and is the ability to work as a group toward a common vision, even if that vision becomes blurry and seems unattainable.
One thing about teamwork is that you are always surrounded by like minded people.
“It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who gets the credit.” ~Author Unknown
We are proud to announce our first 1000 members on Stitching for Pink and welcomes every member once again.

Thought for the day
I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.
~William Penn
THE POWER OF THOUGHT
By Joan
Too often we... enjoy the comfort of
opinion without the discomfort of thought. ~John F.
Kennedy
One can easily make a statement without
thinking and even the Great Book says: “Let your speech
be always with grace, seasoned with
salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every
man.”
Maybe this is the reason why we at Stitching for Pink decided to publish our vision on the homepage of the website. Apart from our vision you can click on “About Us” and read more about the women involved in the campaign.
Our Vision reads: “ Using what is good to achieve what is better by putting what is good to good use.”
It is a supreme privilege to see this vision manifesting in front of us.
We as embroiderers over the world are using what is good, embroidery, to achieve what is better by putting what is good to good use. Instead of 900 women embroidering 900 designs with 900 embroidery machines we are taking hands so that 900 women can embroider 1 design with 9oo embroidery machines to achieve something great – BREAST CANCER AWARENESS.
Our membership is getting close to 1000 now and they are joining as we speak.
Stitching for Pink started as a thought and turned into reality before our eyes.
Did the thought ever cross your mind that without your contribution this would not have been possible?
Thank you!!
WHO ARE BABY BOOMERS?
By Joan
While working through the statistics of our members, which just passed the 700 mark, it struck me between the eyes that we are dealing with a very special group of people.
There always has been a tendancy to define the world in terms of generations. The most familiar generation to us would be the so called “Baby Boomers.” Historically, everyone born during the post-World War II demographic boom in births was called part of the Baby Boom Generation - people born from 1946 - 1964.
Although there is a lot of controversy about this generation I would like to keep it simple and say that the Baby Boomers that are still around are still making a contribution to the next generation by passing on “the art of embroidery” which is of cause mainly taken over by computerized machines and we should therefore rather say “the love for embroidery.”
Decide for yourself whether you qualify for this generation. If you are in the age group 45 -65 you are a Baby Boomer!
However this is not important; what is important is that you are probably a grandmother who successfully empowered yourself with basic computer skills which enables you to make life meaningful.
Being part of this project means that you are still prepared to take on challenges and share your Baby Boomer experience with others
Make sure you inspire your grand daughters to love embroidery!
Look what embroidery is doing for us in this campaign
We want embroidery to boom long after the Baby Boomers are gone!
ONE MILLION WOMEN !
By JoanHow to let 1 000 000 women know.
It sounds impossible but if we look at the figures- well is’nt it possible?
Our crew on the boat count 500 today. Suppose we all start making a list of people we could contact. Every person send out 2 invites per week and suppose our success rate is only 50% ,thus one person joins. Then at the end of the week we have 500 + 500 = 1000 members. Now we have double the strength. So we carry on to send out these 2 invites week after week and so does every new member. Well look at the results!

Now from this table mathematicians gave us a formula to calculate the amount of members that we would have after 18 weeks.
The formula is
Tn = arn-1 where T = Time period in this case week.
n = number of weeks
a = 500 ( first term)
r = common ratio ( 1000:500) = 2
We first test the formula to see how many members we could have in week 5
T5 = 500x2 (5-1)
T5 = 500x 2x2x2x2 = 8000 (the formula works)
After 18 weeks we will have
T18 = 500 x 2(18-1)
= 65 536 000 ( Sixty five million!!)
We don’t want that many! We only want 1 Million! Lets go for it!
WHO SAID IT'S GOING TO BE EASY?
By JoanNothing worth-while is ever easy
When your website suddenly turns into maintenance mode before your eyes and half your members disappear your feelings turn into hodge-podge mode!
Every one capable of helping you, seemed to have disappeared into cyber space.
Mary took control and considered our options to save the day. She worked through every possibilty thinkable to retrieve the data . At last just before breaking point, she hit the nail on the head; and voila! She was in the position to inform our members .
The wonderful reaction from our members was really praiseworthy! Thank you everyone. you made live easy for us in this crisis.
We don’t want this wonderful campaign to be shipwrecked!
"Nothing Is
Easy"
Nothing is easy.
Though time gets you worrying
my friend, it's o.k.
Just take your life easy
and stop all that hurrying,
be happy my way.
When tension starts mounting
and you've lost count
of the pennies you've missed,
just try hard and see why they're not worrying me,
they're last on my list.
Nothing's easy.
Nothing is easy, you'll find
that the squeeze won't turn out so bad.
Your fingers may freeze, worse things happen at sea,
there's good times to be had.
So if you're alone and you're down to the bone,
just give us a play.
You'll smile in a while and discover
that I'll get you happy my way --
nothing's easy.
MEET THE SPONSORS
By JoanSINGER sing your song!!
I can still remember my Granny’s stoop body with her silver grey hair pinned into a neat chignon (bun) while cranking her hand crank SINGER, sewing whatever was needed to be sewn for the family.
Granny passed away long ago but I still treasure her old faithful workhorse companion, as the most valuable decoration in my house
Granny's own SINGER
From its very beginning in the early 1850s,
the name SINGER sewing machines grew to be one of the most well
known sewing machine companies in the world.
Today 2nd June 2010 we are proud to have SINGER as one of
our big sponsors.
Click on our sponsor's page and learn more about SINGER Embroidery machines handpicked by Martha

Commitment !!!
By JoanCommitment!
Clicking on the following link really surprised me.
“Misty Mountain Embroidery Designs” is such a fairy-like name with a promise of excitement and expectation.
That was exactly what I found. Hazy views and misty mountains. Beautiful pink flowers and a so romantic rugged cottage.
I could not refrain from peeping through the little wooden window. The light was dim inside but I could see a beautiful fancy floral quilt on the bed.
She (Susan) was sitting on an old chair at the fireplace looking at a placard, she had just written, on the mantle piece. I tried to read the inscription and could just figure it out in the dim light of the fire.

Join my group to find out how!
I could not belief that it is possible that someone could spent $25 to inspire somebody else to spend $5 on Breast Cancer awareness.
At first I thought it was my imagination so I went back to reality, the Stitching for Pink website, and there it was! A lot of embroiderers inspired by Susan.
Thank you Susan for your commitment! You are already making a huge difference
"TWO WORLDS" This week's survivor
By JoanWhile browsing on the internet I came across a website: SURVIVOR. On the oval badge I read the following: HEROES VS VALAINS and inside the circumference of the oval, the words, RETURN REVENGE and REDEMPTION.
I was astounded by the physical and mental abilities of the participants and looked in admiration to the perfect bodies, which could compete in these murderous competitions and show perseverance and determination as they approach every obstacle and sweat it out to acquire the laurel-wrath.
For just a split second I felt my own inadequacy and incapacity, for never in my life, I will be a participant in one of these survivor competitions. Not because I don’t want to, but because I know my own limitations! – It was then that I realized there are more than one survivor event in life’s arena; even more dangerous than the one I introduced above. Yes events that you participate in, not because you choose to, but because you are forced to. Events in which the obstacles are invisible and does not challenge the muscularity of the body but cowardly, and sneaky, attacking the soft and fragile tissue of the mother’s breast. How insidious!
Today is a gift that is called “The Present” and we have the privilege and honor to receive this gift with gratitude.
Meet Jan Gerrick who, with perseverance and grace acquire the laurel wreath!! She is also the outhor of todays thought for the day.
Having an illness is never the ideal, but life
as its nature, has its ups and downs. It is what you do with the
challenges that make a difference. Never forget to laugh, and to
lean on your friends and your Father above. Learn from the
lessons He sends us. Also, as mentioned at the beginning, never
EVER forget to do your own exams, and trust your instinct if you
think you need a mammogram or an ultra sound, ask for it, and
keep on asking until you are satisfied with the
conclusion.
Thank you for this opportunity to share.

WELCOME TO 266 MEMBERS!!!
By JoanI have a suggestion to make: Since we want you all to stay part of the campaign and explore all the wonderful features of the website let us connect ourselves to log in regularly and stay part
On our members list you will already find more friends than you will ever meet in the normal walk of life. It is so easy to click on "send message" and communicate at least with one different person every day. It should not take longer than 2 minutes of your time. Do you remember yesterdays story of the 2 patients, in " THE PRESENT"?
Yes TODAY is a GIFT that is why it's called THE PRESENT!
We already have one survivor on the website click on SURVIVOR OF THE WEEK. Why not?
( Please read yesterdays blog if you missed it)
